We know it can be a little unnerving to step into a new thing, especially when you’re not exactly sure about the details that matter to you. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the church to give you a picture of what Gallup Christian Church (GCC) looks like week to week and hopefully address issues important to you.
“WHAT WILL THE WORSHIP SERVICE BE LIKE?“
GCC has always been a place where we keep it very simple. It’s relaxed but focused. We don’t need to be flashy or put on big productions for people to meet God. We believe that Jesus is enough. Here’s what you can expect during a typical worship gathering:
As we sing our focus is not ourselves or the people around us, but telling Jesus how much we love Him. So no matter what kind of voice you have, sing out with all of your heart.
At GCC, we believe that the Bible is God’s gift to us to show us who He is and what He’s done for us. Each week, the Pastor or one of the Elders of Gallup Christian Church teach straight from the Bible in a way that is helpful and challenging. If you don’t have a copy of the Bible with you, we have a copy in the pews – feel free to use one of ours. If you don’t own your own Bible, please ask and we have a Bible to take home as our gift to you.
One of the greatest privileges we have as followers of Jesus is being able to pray with boldness and confidence. We’ll pray together throughout our time and, if you would like to have someone pray for you, any of our elders would be honored to pray with you after the worship gathering – you’ll find them staying around, waiting to serve you.
Communion is something that Jesus began the night before he died as a way for his followers to remember and participate in his death on the cross. At GCC, we celebrate communion together every week before the message. The Gallup Christian Church family welcomes all Christians who actively trust Jesus for salvation, who are willing to turn away from their sin to receive communion with us.
The bread and wine (juice) are passed through the congregation by some of our elders and deacons. As a symbol of unity in our relationship with Jesus the Christ, we ask that you hold the bread and the wine and take them together with the congregation, as one of the elders reads from the New Testament one of the accounts of the Lord’s Supper. (The cups for the juice are collected as the offering is received.)
If you are our guest, please do not feel obligated to give anything financially – please feel free to give as God leads you in one of the offering plates as it is passed during the offering song. You may also place your offering in the box situated on the piano.
”WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE MAKE UP GCC?“ What you’ll encounter when you attend GCC is a diverse biblical community where people seek to know and love God, grow in community with others and go to the world by serving our city as we believe Jesus would. Practically speaking, that means the some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church their whole lives. GCC members span all different ethnicity, ages and backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
”WHAT IF I’M NOT USED TO GOING TO CHURCH?“ You are the reason Jesus started having church. GCC wants to be a comfortable place for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church. We want GCC to be a place where you can learn, apply and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet.
”WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?“ At GCC, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. Some wear ties, others wear tattoos and we like it that way. There is no set dress code, although the attire is more on the casual side. Just be you.
”WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?“ GCC is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and are a vital part of every local church. We do offer a “children’s church” during the sermon time but we also believe children are a part of the entire church family so we encourage families to worship together first before being dismissed for “CHURCH JR.”. We know that having kids in worship with us brings some extra “kid noise” with it – and we like it that way. We love having families with kids of all ages worshiping together with us!
”CAN I INVITE MY FRIENDS?“ Please do. We seek to be a welcoming environment for people who are curious about Christianity or who are seeking to belong to a community of believers.
